1. 2 tips before choosing your winter coat
Before helping you start looking for your partner for the season, it's worth redefining some basic rules:- First of all, choose the right size: Indeed, it may seem silly but when you think about it, nothing is more unpleasant than realizing the morning you are about to leave the house in your new coat, that with a sweater underneath, it is a little too tight, and therefore, you cannot wear it for fear of it cracking... Let's be honest, in winter, we rarely go out in a t-shirt under our coat, so think about it when trying it on! Don't be upset about taking a size above, it doesn't matter, and you will be much more comfortable.
- Next, pay attention to the material. Coats are everywhere this time of year. But do you always check the label to make sure it'll keep you warm? It's less certain... By investing in a coat made of wool and/or cashmere, you can be sure it'll be nice and warm!
2. How to find THE coat?
What length?
There are several lengths of coats:
- short: this coat stops above the buttocks
- mid-length: this stops above the knee
- long: this one stops below the knee
- very long: this goes down to the ankles.
If you're petite, a short coat might be ideal. It will accentuate your legs and lengthen your silhouette.
If your shoulders are wider than the rest of your body (V-shaped), a straight coat or one with volume at the bottom will be best. You can choose a long coat if you are tall, or a shorter one if you are petite.
If your hips are wider than the rest of your body (A-shaped body), you will need to focus on volume towards the top; a coat with shoulder pads would be ideal.
If your shoulders are aligned with your axes (X-shaped body), highlight your waist and opt, for example, for a bathrobe coat that is tight at the waist.
For H-shaped bodies, don't wear a belt, opt for a straight, close-fitting coat.
Finally, for O-shaped bodies, avoid a coat that's too fitted, but opt for a coat with a straight, well-structured cut. A belted coat with a "loose" effect (belt tightened at least) will be your best ally.
What color?
As for the choice of color, knowing that you will wear it every day (or almost) for several months, choose a neutral color such as black, navy blue, gray, beige or camel.
